If you’re looking to give Stardew Valley’s multiplayer a try, then you’re going to need to opt into the beta. Now, since Stardew Valley is available on both Steam and GOG, we’ll break this guide down into two branches. First, let’s cover how to join the beta on Steam.
How to Play Multiplayer on Steam
To enable the beta on Steam, head to your Library and right-click on Stardew Valley in the game list.
From here, select Properties.
Now you should be able to select the beta tab and see a dropdown for the beta that you want to select.
Right off the bat, you won’t have any betas available here. So, you’ll need to unlock it. To do this, locate the box below the drop down and then enter the password jumpingjunimos and click Check Code. This should give you a message saying that you’ve unlocked the beta.
Select the beta from the dropdown, then Steam will download the beta client with the co-op game mode installed as well.
How to Play Multiplayer on GOG Galaxy
If you own the game on GOG, then you’ll need to have the GOG Galaxy application installed.
With GOG Galaxy launched, locate Stardew Valley in your library and click on it. Now, click on MORE and find Settings.
From here, search for the Beta Channels option up in the top right-hand corner and change this setting to ON to enable the use of beta clients in GOG Galaxy.
From here you can go to the UPDATES area of the game and locate the Channel drop down list. Next, select Add Private Channels from the bottom of the list and then input jumpingjunimos as the password and click Submit. This should unlock the beta client in the drop-down list. Select it to download it and install the co-op client.
All that’s left to do now is launch the game and choose the co-op option. Not only can players now have a game of up to 4 people, but they can also convert a single-player game by building cabins. It’ll work by using one of the players as a host and then adds a co-op menu onto the home menu, as well as having LAN options and allowing for Steam/GOG crossplay.

Players share money, and the mode features the ability to adjust difficulty via the selling value and the starting layout of other players cabins. There are also vague hints about being able to help out one of the town residents in a large way, as well as the ability to change professions. This sounds like a pretty meaty update, and doubtless, it’ll bring plenty of people back to till the digital earth.
For myself, I got into Stardew Valley earlier this year and it has been a blast the whole way through. It is such a calming experience, and one that keeps you constantly busy with things to do, all while never overly stressing you out.
